Healthy Unicorn Frappe Starbucks Dupe

The original unicorn frappé was always more about the spectacle than the drink itself. Bright colors, nostalgic vibes, and a lot of sugar doing the heavy lifting. This version keeps the fun part and, but of course since you found me, drops the rest.

Instead of artificial dyes, the colors come from blue spirulina and red dragonfruit. Instead of syrups, the base is sugar-free vanilla ice cream and fruit. The result is still creamy, still playful, and actually feels good to drink. And um… did I mention it’s super easy AND tasty? That helps make this a win!

What makes this work is treating each color as its own simple smoothie. Mango pairs well with blue spirulina and keeps the flavor bright and mellow. Dragonfruit brings that bold pink tone without overpowering the drink, and a tiny bit of raspberry extract gives it a familiar “unicorn” flavor note without adding sugar.

Using a spoon to gently add each color keeps the stripes clean, especially if you’re serving it in a clear glass. Presentation really is half the experience, and who doesn’t want to see the swirls and layers in this? Its gorgeousness. The whipped topping is optional of course. If you want the full coffee-shop feel, it’s easy to do with no added sugar. If not, the drink holds up just fine on its own (and I personally prefer without!).

This is a good reminder that “fun food” doesn’t have to be a nutritional write-off. Sometimes it just needs a smarter base and better ingredients. If you try it, play with the layers, take the photo, and enjoy the novelty. That’s kind of the point. 🙂

Notes

Absolutely feel free to make this even more protein heavy by adding in a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.
Adjust milk amounts slightly for a thinner or thicker consistency.
Blue spirulina is purely for color and mild nutrients—it won’t taste “algae-like” at this amount.
Any sugar-free vanilla ice cream works here, dairy or plant-based.
Best enjoyed fresh for the brightest colors.
